Samsung might showcase its first Bada smartphone at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month(15-18 February). The unveiling of a bada handset would mark the first device to run on Samsung’s home-brewed smartphone platform. Samsung’s Bada will feature the latest version of the Samsung TouchWiz user interface which comes with “chic touch interaction and components to increase its simplicity and ease of use.” According to official Bada blog , there are 30+ stylish common controls including A Flash control to implement Flash-based UI Integrated web browser control to embed web content into application Application controls , such as the dialer, media browser, and contact editor, make it even easier to handle the device and data.” While 40 kinds of Samsung smartphones are expected to be released this year, Samsung has not decided how many kinds of Bada-based smartphones will be released. The portion of smartphones by OS could be set by the end of next month following close talks with major mobile operators, Mr. Kim Hyung-do, a vice president for strategic planning at Samsung said. In a conference call for Korean investors he further added,”Bada, the company’s own mobile phone platform, is getting a good response from global mobile operators”. Samsung also plans to launch an Android 2.1 based smartphone sometime in the first half of 2010 and it appears Samsung will reduce their dependency on Windows Mobile.
