IPL : More than 700000 Videos viewed on Mobile Phones

If you are one of the users who watch the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament on your phone, good news is that over 700,000 or 7 lacs videos have been viewed on mobile phones.  A report released by the company July Systems has some handset data too. Nokia accounted for 65%, of the userbase followed by Samsung, LG, BlackBerry and Sony Ericsson accounting for 30% July Systems had introduced its exclusive IPL on mobile service on March 12, 2010.  Considering the state of India’s networks where 3G is used only by a fraction of the society and even GPRS / EDGE speeds are not great such a feat by a mobile video service is really impressive ! The numbers point to over 2000 hours of videos downloaded and viewed by users on the mobile phone.To access the MIX service users can call the  toll free number 08 123 123 123 from the mobile or logon to m.ipl20.com  on their mobile. July Systems had introduced Mobile internet eXperience (MiX) platform which provides live updates, action replays, video scorecards, cheerleader videos, and many more exciting features.MIX delivers the IPL across all telecom operators and on more than 6,852 different web enabled (GPRS enabled) handsets, including those that do not have multimedia and video capabilities.  You do not need a smartphone to access this service. Any mobile with Internet connectivity at any location will work. You do not even need broadband or 3G, as it works fine over EDGE and GPRS. By this way, it helps lot of cricket lovers who are not aware of accessing internet on their mobiles, to watch IPL just by a phone call. Vertu Unveils Four Golden Phones In Japan

Nokia recently unveiled four new golden phones through its luxury mobile phone brand Vertu. These handsets has been announced in Japan and named as Kinko, Kikusui, Nanten and Daigo. Each of these handsets comes with a price tag of $215,000 (approx. 20 million yen). All the handsets are priced equally ($215,000) including free domestic calls and they are made in Japan with an exclusive gold lacquerwork. Each design of these phones stands for the different seasons of the year. According to CrunchGear , “The occasion for these super-limited editions is the first anniversary of Vertu’s flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo next month. Vertu plans to sell just four of these handsets worldwide.” The specs of these handsets looks quite unimpressive. These phones are exclusively made from precious materials. Vertu will sell only one unit of each model worldwide. If you have enough bucks to buy this handset, then hurry up or else you will miss the golden opportunity to own one of these limited edition phones. HTC Desire Black Edition Confirmed

HTC Desire, the powerful smartphone which was expected to release today in UK will be available in an additional color from next month. The Android powered smartphone will be available soon in Black Edition on the airwaves of Orange UK. It is rumored that HTC Desire will be available in more colors in the coming months. Conor Maples, Orange UK’s PR manager, confirmed that Black Edition of HTC Desire will be available on their airwaves from the end of April. He tweeted , “Yes we will be ranging the HTC Desire from early April…and an exclusive Black Edition from end of April too…tempted?” HTC Desire is an amazing smartphone with a 1 GHz processor and Android 2.1 Operating System. It has a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, 3G connectivity, Proximity and light sensor, GPS, Digital compass, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack, 1400 mAh Battery and so on. HTC Desire will be available on the airwaves of T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange, but the Black Edition will be exclusively available for Orange UK customers. Sprint Launching HTC EVO 4G On April 16?

HTC EVO 4G, the powerful smartphone which was announced last week by Sprint at the CTIA 2010 is expected to launch next month. According to the Sprint’s Facebook page , this handset will be available from April 16 in the US. HTC EVO 4G is the Sprint’s first smartphone which comes with a 4G connectivity. The WiMax enabled HTC EVO 4G is powered by Android 2.1 operating system and it has a powerful 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Some notable features include a 4.3 inches WVGA display with 800×480 pixels resolution, 8 megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording, 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP Stereo and EDR, built-in kickstand for hands-free viewing and much more. It’s always interesting and hilarious to stroll down the memory lane and have a peek at some of the gadgets of the past .  So get ready for the question of the evening. What was your first phone   ? The Nokia 3310 pictured above  is one of the most successful phones in cellphone history.  Back them we had no Android , Symbian or iPhone to pick from. Also it shows how phones have transformed from a mere calling / messaging device to all-in-one devices with amazing computing power. I just posted this question on twitter and the 3310 got a lot of votes . Here are the 2 weekly unlimited plans available for TATA Indicom prepaid users: BlackBerry messaging bundle at Rs 85 for unlimited emails and instant messaging – Gtalk, yahoo messenger and windows live messenger for a week. BlackBerry internet bundle at Rs 250 for unlimited internet browsing for a week along with BlackBerry mail and instant messaging services. The above two plans are also available on a monthly package costing Rs 299 and Rs 900 respectively. But Motorola has joined hands with local maps company MapMyIndia to offer lifetime free access to fully voice-guided street-level navigable maps of 401 cities in India Above image is just illustration and not the actual software on the phone This offers voice-guided navigation and routing in the cities and across major national and state highways. With this the Indian consumer can drive to 400,000 towns and villages and explore over one million points of interest like budget/premium hotels, petrol pumps, eating joints, ATMs, hospitals as well as tourist and religious spots. All the consumer needs to do is to launch ‘India’ maps from the MOTONAV application to enjoy an unparalleled navigation experience. The GPS navigation service is free with no activation or data charges, independent of mobile networks and can be used even without inserting the SIM card, as the maps are fully loaded on the MILESTONE It sounds really cool and would have been cool if Moto bundled the phone with a Car holder.  I had a chance to talk with a MapMyIndia executive recently and they claim to have the best maps of India just next to the government . I’m really eager to try this for navigation inside a small town and also a major city !
