Are you not able to use many Facebook applications and games because they demand credit? Well, Facebook has rolled out a smart solution for you! Facebook has partnered with a Malaysian company, MOL, allowing a virtual currency for online games and services to be sold at retail shops across Asia for the first time. So users would be able to buy Facebook credits in person at an MOL store. Facebook Credits are simplified systems of payment used for buying gifts and playing games on the Facebook platform. These currencies can be bought using PayPal, credit card or via mobile phone. According to the deal, MOL AccessPortal would pay for Facebook Credits and the members of Facebook would buy Credits through MOL Points on Facebook. The partnership deal has been mainly announced for Asian region Facebook users. Users in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, India, Australia, and New Zealand will be able to buy prepaid Facebook Credits on MOL.com and at MOL outlets in 7-Eleven stores and cyber cafes. MOL AccessPortal is a Malaysia-based service provider for online payments and MOL Global is a part of it. The company handles “over 60 million transactions” annually, leveraging “a network of more than 540,000 physical payment collection points” that connect to 88 banks in nine different countries. “Asia has a huge gaming community, and it’s typically young people. The penetration for credit cards is very low… so the developers are not making money and missing this opportunity. The move is targeting people who don’t have a credit card, particularly younger Facebook users, and those who don’t want to take the risk of making electronic payments online. ” MOL spokesman Nor Badron said. The initiative is mainly aimed at the mix of people who don’t use credit cards (which is the main method for buying FB credits) and prefer pre-payment systems for things like cell phones, and kids who don’t yet own one. There’s also going to be MOL gift cards carrying Facebook credits, which many will see as a neat birthday present for the Net Generation. So now, you know that plonking your pocket money down to buy virtual credits at a MOL terminal is likely to be easier than persuading your parents to hand over their credit details for that uninterrupted Facebook experience !
