Consider this : You get up in the morning by a surveillance alarm. You switch it off and the house lights up! You switch on your TV, not only for the morning news but also for checking your mail. You live just minutes away from your work place and reach comfortably with the automatized transport. Next you advertise for the sale of your laptop on an online portal accessed by everyone in the city. If you need to travel urgently, you can track where your wife has parked your car. Sounding like a scene too distant in the future? Its actually not going to be that long! The dream of India’s first e-city is now inching closer to reality. Touted as India’s first e-city, MyCity Technology – a joint venture set-up by Lavasa Corporation and Wipro – signed a definitive agreement for Cisco to participate in its development. Lavasa -the dream city- spread over 20,000 acres of area, is set amid seven hills and 60 km of lakefront. A three-hour drive from Mumbai and an hour’s drive from Pune, the city is a fourth the size of Mumbai. Lavasa Corporation has already invested Rs 4,500 crore in developing the hill city. Company officials say by this time next year, the capital expenditure would have touched Rs 6,000 crore. The city will boast of : RFID infrastructure to automatically track assets across the city. Connecting all buildings across the city using a secure IP. Network to help centralize management operations. Logistic supply centers boasting of airport, rail, dry dock and operation center. Hi tech park for knowledge based, science and research development focused on e-governance and distance learning. Intelligent transportation and Just In Time delivery. An world class experience with SpaceWorld — a 65-acre edutainment park powered by technology from the USSRC — offering a space-like experience to visitors. Why Cisco and Wipro? As part of the collaboration, Cisco will be the preferred technology partner for ICT products and architecture, and will utilize its Smart+Connected Communities initiative and service delivery platform to help make Lavasa City a smart and sustainable city of the future. Wipro will provide services in areas like city management services, e-governance, ICT infrastructure and value added services, including proposing and implementing intelligent home solutions and digital lifestyles. Wipro will also design the detailed infrastructure for telecom services for governance, that will facilitate smart homes and buildings, including integrated building management systems, physical security requirements and other services. A First of its Kind Experience Lavasa also aims to provide a good work-life balance, with a unique combination of technology and infrastructure. The city will have a 365-day economy, with a host of non-polluting industries being the main economic driver; these include research and development and training centres, IT and biotech industry, knowledge process outsourcing (KPOs) firms and those related to art, fashion and animation. “We plan to have a multi-service SEZ (special economic zone), built on 200 acres to accommodate all these plans, to create communities with self-governance mechanism” says Ajit Gulabchand, chairman of Lavasa Corp. His is the only private company to get a ‘Special Planning Authority’ status. So start dreaming about your ‘out of the world’ abode, while we at WATblog will buzz you with more updates on this.
