Nokia’s Ovi Music Trends – A R Rahman Most Downloaded In 2010

Yesterday, Nokia shared with us download trends from its Ovi Music Store for the year 2010. The company laid emphasis on the legality of its music service. Mr. Jasmeet Gandhi, Head Services Marketing, Nokia India said “Music is an intrinsic part of the Indian society and we offer music for every age, gender, mood and situation. Launched with the intent to change the consumption pattern for legal digital music in India, Ovi Music Store has reinvented the way consumer experiences music and received an overwhelming response in India. We are proud to announce the legal digital music consumption trends on the store for 2010 and earnestly hope the trend of legal digital downloads will continue to grow, giving the music industry the much needed boost.” Not surprisingly, A R Rahman emerged as the most downloaded artist of 2010. And thanks to the World Cup and Waka Waka, Shakira was the most downloaded artist around the world – with India accounting for 25% of these. Taylor Swift and Norah Jones were the other popular female international artists in India. Nokia also pointed out that Pritam, Sajid-Wajid, Vishal-Shekhar and Salim-Sulaiman were most downloaded music directors. Genre wise Bollywood  songs were the most downloaded, followed by Pop and Rock. Enrique’s album – I Like It – was the most popular album, followed by Michael Jacksons posthumous album – Hold My Hand – and Justin Bieber’s Baby.
