Indian Angle Network has funded an amount of Rs. 2 Crores (US$ $4, 00,000) in Birds Eye . Birds Eye is a Geographical information systems company & offers two products. This Mumbai-based company intends to use the funding to expand nationwide, enhance the scope of services and further develop the products. As part of the deal, IAN investor members Rajiv Dadlani and Nitin Agarwal have joined the board of Birds Eye Systems. The products presently include Traffline and a mobile Taxi booking service, TaxiGo . Traffline is a geo-information system that offers real time traffic updates to commuters by using available GPS data sourced from cabs and buses that are already on city roads. The company is in talks with mobile companies to offer the service via SMS too. The updates are currently free. Interestingly, the company wants to earn through Value Added Services ( VAS ). We assume they want to run some sort of active recommendation engine wherein a person is informed about deals nearby. The app is currently available on Web , Mobile and as an Android app & is free unlike other offerings . The company’s second product is TaxiGo, which claims to serve 15,000 customers & has 1000 unique visitors per day. Though their method of operation is not clear, if they can somehow manage to use their own GPS information to direct their cabs, it would be one of the most efficient operations! TaxiGo might be a cab aggregator service , since we do not see a fleet owner status. Indians are in dire need of such traffic management & information apps. Currently, MapMyIndia & even Nokia to some extent offer similar services . However, if real-time information is being offered, one might see a great scope for such products especially in crowded metros which frequently suffer traffic jams.
