Facebook Adds Mobile Data To Page Insights, Rolls Out App Centre To India

Facebook has recently introduced an update to their Insight section for Pages which takes into account the data originating from mobile devices. As we all know, Facebook’s mobile apps are seeing some heavy adoption. Even before the IPO was tabled, there were concerns about the monetization aspects of the service on mobile devices. With the introduction of mobile data into Page Insights, the company is working hard on making their advertising business relevant to this new and uncharted medium.  They have already started showing sponsored stories on their mobile apps. This is in addition to new updates and their release of a dedicated Page manager app (iOS only as of now).  The company has been working very hard to extend their profitable ecosystem (desktop) to the mobile and the challenge is steep. Besides this, there have been changes applied to the News Feed. To speed up the feed reading experience, Facebook allows fewer stories to load. As you begin to scroll down, the rest of the stories start loading. This makes loading the content easier and also has the added benefit of improving the metric of a page’s updates. From now on only those who actually see your updates will be counted into the metric as opposed to updates that load upfront. This gives a significant boost to insight accuracy. Facebook App Centre: Yes, this happened a while ago. Facebook announced the launch of their app centre earlier this month. The app centre removes the somewhat messy  implementation of Facebook’s App product and replaces it into a neat and elegant one. I was wondering when this feature was going to be rolled to me and today I saw that it had been added. I am assuming that you guys must have seen it too. If not, here’s how it looks. The app deals with both the dominant platforms, web and mobile. The apps are neatly stacked and have a beautiful visual appeal. The apps are arranged in a category wise sorting which is dominant on many app markets. The apps are also categorized by Top rated, Trending and Top Grossing. Some examples of popular apps are Instagram, Farmville, Quora, Local Picks ,  Saavn , Spotify and so on and so forth.  You can also send the app to your mobile device if you are surfing the web on your desktop. Overall, it looks good and is a decent product. Facebook has taken another important step forward by introducing the App Centre. Apps already existed before the app centre’s release. The way they were organised was really putting off. The Facebook ecosystem is expanding. Some are also speculating that Facebook is launching a smartphone soon. These products may just be incremental improvements. That would be a big step ahead for the company and since a great majority uses Facebook, the phones would definitely sell and in the process begin eating the market share of current OSs and ecosystems. Facebook, however,  will play it very cautiously. They have taken a majority of things slow since a while, studying the situation.
