Indians Spend 25% Of Their Online Time On Social Media, Says ComScore

ComScore has come out with a study which suggests that Indians seem to be spending 25% of their online time on Facebook. The study says that 57.8 million people are accessing the Internet from their home or work computer are using Google’s services. Facebook comes in afterwards a  50.9 million visitors and is followed by Yahoo! services and Microsoft.  This is interesting to note. Facebook is just one website whereas Google is a bunch of several productivity services like Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, Google+ and so on and so forth. If you club them as one then yes, Google might be ahead but Facebook’s numbers show that it is giving the established Internet company some serious threats. I personally think that Facebook’s reach is greater in some aspects. It is a social networking site and does not really provide any productivity options. Yes, you can do a lot of stuff there, but Google wins on that front. What I am getting at is the fact that more people are using social media rather than just checking information on the Internet. Besides these international Internet companies, local Indian companies have also secured their spot in the Top 10 sites being accessed by Indians. Times Internet leads with 33.7% reach of the online population and is followed by Network 18 ( 29.3% ), Rediff ( 25.2% ) and NIC ( 21.8% ). Here’s a chart that ComScore has provided. Does not include data from Internet cafes and mobile phones Another result of this study undertaken by ComScore is an insight into the top online activity among Indians. So far, Social Media leads hands down at 25% of all time spent online. This is an increase of 0.8% from last year’s figures. Does not include Internet Cafe and Mobile Internet Data Thus, social media has become very important to the Indian user and this is reflected by the increasing amount of usage. Although, people have suggested that social media is a ‘fad’ , it is increasingly showing signs that it does not intend to go anywhere.
