Innoz Technologies , have made an official announcement that its flagship product SMSGyan accessible through mobile short code 55444 has surpassed the Billion queries mark. Contradictory to popular conception that SMS becoming extinct thanks to instant messaging apps, Innoz disagrees with the idea of the extinction . Deepak Ravindran, CEO Innoz Technologies says, “ The world celebrated the 20 th anniversary of SMS technology on December 3 rd . This milestone puts to rest all doubts and proves yet again that SMS is definitely not a dying tool of communication. In a country, which can be considered as SMS crazy, there are millions who are using our service to search for instant answers. We can confidently say that SMS is still very much alive and there is so much more we can still do with it .” A mere week ago, we had written how such companies were empowering people having basic phones with the power of internet & its vast knowledge base. This precise audience has been left out of internet revolution just because their devices do not possess the ability to access internet. Well, such companies are surely at the helm of altering the scenario. From rickshaw / taxi fares to PNR & running status of trains, such companies are answering simple, yet crucial queries by means of their innovative platforms. Innoz also shared that the Southern India is its most active market with 40% queries originating there. For the time being location based queries such as location of ATMs, restaurants, petrol bunks etc. topped the list of most searched on 55444, followed by movie reviews & local screening timings. There’s no doubt that internet access will be the key aspect of modernizing any nation. Are companies and services like Innoz, txtWeb , Google SMS , etc. empowering the generation or merely delaying the adoption of full-fledged smartphones which possess the capability to access complete websites and services?
