Twitter To Soon Allow You To Archive Your All Tweets

In the past few months, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo repeatedly said that the social media behemoth would make the download-all-tweets option available for users this year. And he seems to have stuck to his word . On Sunday, some users noticed the ‘Your Twitter Archive ’ option in their Twitter settings which enabled them to download all their tweets. To put it plainly, Twitter has begun to roll-out the ‘Twitter Archives’ options wherein a user can download ALL her/his tweets. Here’s how it works. Once a user clicks on the ‘Your Twitter Archive ’ option, he will get a message from Twitter saying, “ You can request a file containing your information, starting with your first tweet. A link will be emailed to you when the file is ready for download .” Once the emailed link is clicked on, the user will get a zip file with the archive in HTML format. Once extracted, the tweets, sorted date-wise, are for the user to see, store, analyse, forget about! This detailed information was provided by New Delhi based Twitter user Navjot Singh who wrote about the process on his blog . With the addition of this feature, Twitter joins the likes of Facebook and Google+ who also allow users to download their archives. This year has been a year of revamps and policy changes for Twitter. Earlier this month, Twitter introduced photo filters in a bid to rival Instagram. Now, Twitter also allows users to email tweets and the ‘discover’ option has undergone changes too. In November, Twitter made amends to its copyright policy and tackled the issue of transparency head-on. From all these efforts, it is obvious that Twitter is determined to stay on the right side of the law and to enhance the user experience as much as possible. Given the excitement around the possibility of being able to download ALL tweets, this particular feature is surely a hit with the users. During the time of writing this post, the tweets download feature wasn’t available on my account. Have you got the ‘Your Twitter Archive’ option yet? And what do you make of it? Let me know.
