Indian Telcos Are Getting Ready For Blackberry 10

Blackberry 10, the one OS that has the potential to save a once great company will be released on January 30th. It is the day when RIM will announce new and updated devices and the OS which will definitely sport some massive improvements over RIM’s previous iterations. The OS has been delayed quite a bit and RIM runs the risk of being dangerously late to the party. However, we are all waiting for what the company has up its sleeve. It has been wooing developers since quite some time and is apparently also having successful dev events. According to a report in Firstpost, Indian carriers could also be looking at new OS/devices which RIM will ship soon. Aircel has reportedly promised support to Blackberry 10 and other carriers are mulling over the decision to support it. Carriers like Vodafone are going to wait for the global launch before making the decision to support it. The report also says that Idea and Reliance GSM has no plans to support it. I find that odd! Is it because they have a vested interest in Android? Idea has released their own Android phone in partnership with Alcatel. Reliance GSM ran an Android campaign with Google last year. India has quite a bit of Blackberry users, although the  numbers may have fallen since last year due to the rise of ‘ Bring Your Own Device ’ mentality that employers and corporates seem to be accepting. RIM’s new OS has to provide something more than what Android, iOS and Windows Phone already provide. Signs that this might happen is already evident from the BBM Voice capability over WiFi and advanced sharing functionality. The other plus is that the BB 10 might be able to run Android apps through an intermediary program. That seems a bit troublesome but a hardcore BB user wouldn’t mind it. All this is still not enough and I believe that the company might have an solid ace up its sleeve. What features do you think Blackberry 10 will bring to its users? Will the Blackberry work in India?
