Qualcomm & Spice To Jointly Push M-Health Service In India

Qualcomm Technologies & Spice Global will jointly develop & deploy Mobile Health Services within the next couple of years revealed, BK Modi, founder and chairman, Spice Global, “ Spice Global in association with Qualcomm will launch health services in India using mobile devices by next year. Also, in a couple of months, we will first start the mobile health services in Singapore ”. While the company has stated that they will make combined use of WiFi, 3G & upcoming 4G  to offer a platform, it is not immediately clear exactly how the platform will operate. However, Modi added, “ When we launch mobile health services in India, we will leverage WiFi , 3G and 4G networks to provide a platform where patients can consult doctors using their mobile phones .” Multiple telecom service providers have deployed their own similar products to attract users to their Mobile Value Added Services (M-VAS) offering. Quite recently, Vodafone was the telecom company which chose to try its hands at health related services. Health related advisory services is nothing new & truth be told there’s nothing innovative about the same. It’s the same information about good health practices & preventive measures that is offered & often charged for. We would have surely admired a concept wherein, queries of patients can be taken down via IVR or some other recording system & then a panel of doctors could advise some cure. However, such services cannot be deployed for the precise reason that ailments need multiple inputs, to be diagnosed & treated correctly. Besides it is not possible to write up a prescription via mobile telephony. Interestingly, Qualcomm does posses the technology to transmit patient’s vital signs to a central hospital & doctors can then advise via clinic staff or a simple phone call. If Spice bring in such a feature it would surely revolutionize medicinal practice in India. What do you think?
