Social Gifting Startup Giftology Starts Offering Paid Gifts

Giftology is a social gifting startup which aims to provide easy gifting solutions to people who use Facebook. Giftology isn’t the only one in this space as other startups like Giveter, Badhai and 99presents are also in on the fray to build this brand new market in the country. We wrote about Giftology last November. At that point in time the website was offering ‘free gifts’ which Facebook users could send to their friends. All one had to do was select a voucher/gift from the listed brands/e-commerce companies and send it across to a friend on say his birthday. The friend would be able to redeem the gift and everyone was happy. Now the website has announced a new addition. You can now pay for certain gifts in addition to sending free gifts. I know it is the thought that counts, but sending a free gift to a friend might just not be the best thing to do, especially if they are close. Also, the free gifts are of a limited variety such a coupons, discount vouchers etc. Now with paid gifts, you can actually send something premium if you want to. Varun Vummidi, CEO of Giftology.com spoke about the new paid feature. “Giftology.com targets the 60 million Indians on Facebook to make use of its unique and varied gifting solutions. It serves as a ‘discovery platform’ where customers can explore a plethora of brands; add-ons and gifts on their assorted collections. Our free gift cards save your time, money and effort to choose the right gift. And now you can make it even bigger by adding some money to it.” The gifts that are listed in the paid section cost somewhere in the range of Rs. 100 – Rs. 1000. Some of the prominent brands that are listed in the paid category are Jabong, Healthkart, Fab Furnish, Nirulas and so on. This seems to solve a crucial problem for the company, one which affects the variety of gifts on offer. If brands get paid for their goods, then we can expect to see a whole lot of products depending on the amount of people that Giftology succeeds in getting onto their platform.
