Twitter Officially Launches Vine, A Short Video Sharing App For iOS

Earlier, we had written about Twitter’s acquisition of Vine, an early stage video sharing startup. Vine helps mobile users to capture short videos and share them with everyone on its network. I thought that Twitter would integrate this video sharing capability within the official mobile app itself, the way it has done with but it seems the app has been formally launched as a standalone app for iOS. Twitter officially announced the app on its blog. According to the announcement, the Vine video functionality has been added to the embedded tweet functionality of Twitter, something that we reported 2 days back. We were having issues with the embedded Twitter content being displayed on our blog. Twitter’s blog seems to run on a customised version of Google’s Blogger. It seems WordPress support doesn’t currently exist for the embeds. We are still going to embed a Vine video tweet. Check it out below and let us know if you can see the extended previews. Holding hands at Tilden park — James Buckhouse (@buckhouse) January 24, 2013 Just like tweets have revolutionized messaging and communication by putting a fixed limit on the characters, Vine also has a video capture limit of 6 seconds. It takes the HD or normal video and pares this into GIF like images which give the impression of movement. You can pause video recording at any point and pick up the recording later. This is pretty interesting as the brevity will make these short videos load faster for everyone globally irrespective of internet speeds. I think the brevity will also make people tweet more quality videos. You can share your Vine videos on Twitter’s timeline and also on Facebook (but it seems Facebook has blocked Vine’s friend finding service on its platform). The app is free to download on iOS. Support for other platforms seems to be in the pipeline. Download Link | Vine for iOS Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
