For Blackberry 10 Content, RIM Partners With Walt Disney, Sony Pictures & Others

RIM has evidently expanded its horizon from enterprises services & is looking towards mainstream mass-consumption content. Augmenting its smartphone line up with popular music & video content, RIM has tied-up with multiple Entertainment biggies like Walt Disney Studios, Sony Pictures, Universal, Warner Music, among others to source music albums, movies, TV series & other audio-visual content. RIM’s BlackBerries have always been perceived as business oriented devices. These phones did a good job of handling all the office related communication & were in fact quite famous for the BlackBerry Enterprise Services, which the company has still managed to protect from privy eyes. Sure, the business outlook worked wonders in the initial stages for the company who was on the lookout for large corporate customers who bough the phones in hundreds & later distributed them among the workforce. However, the business dynamics have changed quite significantly. Today, employees prefer to bring their own devices to work. In fact, the phenomenon has now been formally known as ‘Bring Your Own Device’ culture. Under this new regime, people, in general had started dumping their BlackBerries in favor of Apple’s iPhones & Google’s Android powered devices which are more popular & come with pretty attractive features. Besides offering a secure environment for business related activities, these devices have been able to offer entertainment options as well & this is where BlackBerries have critically fallen short. BlackBerry World , a repository of applications & other content will soon have extensive catalogue of songs, movies and television shows. BlackBerry’s supposedly greatest OS yet, the BB OS 10 is due tomorrow. Such an offering could be just the cherry on the cake that the people need, to continue with their BlackBerries along with the OS update. What do you think?
