The Latest Iteration Of Aakash Will Be Priced At Rs. 1500: Kapil Sibal

Kapil Sibal’s pet project, the education centric ultra-affordable tablet Aakash could land in people’s hands for a paltry sum of Rs. 1500 stated the Union Telecom and IT minister. Undergoing multiple changes in the design & hardware, the 7 Inch tablet will soon have its third iteration ready for mass-distribution. And the Government is keen to resell it at a final price of just Rs. 1500 (US$ 27). Currently, the original manufacturer Datawind sells Aakash to the Government for Rs. 2363 (US$ 43). Thereafter, the Government subsidizes it Rs. 1130 (US$ 20) & resells them to Colleges, Universities & other educational departments to be handed over to their students. However, if the Government does manage to stay true to its word, the Aakash Tablet could break every record about affordability. While the first iteration had a poor quality Resistive screen, the 2 nd version had a much more acceptable Capacitive screen. Besides, the tablet also featured a lot of improvement in the Battery, Processor & RAM segments too. The 1 st Aakash could be termed as a fiasco since it could not offer even basic functionality well & drew the wrath of IIT-Rajasthan. Thereafter the second version was developed under the watchful eye of IIT-Bombay who also developed software for it. Interestingly, the third version is being developed by the same company who chose to outsource components to Chinese manufacturers to ‘ save time ’, but this time, there are inputs from IIT-Bombay Prof Deepak B Phatak, Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala of IIT-Madras and other partners. Many IIT students across India too, are involved in the project. Given the academic muscle behind the latest version Aakash, we can only hope to see a much more refined & powerful hardware coupled with intuitive & user-friendly software. A while earlier, the Indian Government had promised the nation a multitude of products including a watch running on Google’s Android OS, this time it is promising a very low price for a tablet with mainstream features. Do you think it will stay true to its word? Image Courtesy |   post.jagran Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
