Branded Apparel Made A Good Headway, Reports IAMAI In Its E-Commerce Report For January

The online e-Commerce scenario seems to be making new headways  each time IAMAI tries to explore patterns regarding the same. The fairly routine ‘ Internet Economy Watch Report ’ released by IAMAI has made an interesting observation in the January’s issue with Branded Apparel. Evidently, web portals reselling such merchandise witnessed significant growth in traction & business ROI. With almost 8 Million unique hits, the segment was able to register a massive 84% Year on Year (YoY) growth. The virtual shops have evidently sparked a new wave of shopping trends. Interestingly, the overall lifestyle segment itself seems to have received a most direly required boost too. The footwear and jewelry segment too, indicated a YoY growth of 80% and 75% respectively, during the same time frame. What about Online Ticketing? This sector continues to attract attention & business. However, there appears to be a fundamental shift in the users’ expectation. While earlier, merely offering tickets worked for a site like IRCTC, its growth has apparently plateaued. It managed to enhance traction by merely 300,000 (From 4.42 Million in Jan 2012 to 4.70 Million in Jan 2013). This may indicate that buyers visiting these Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) want a lot more than ticketing. Perhaps the appeal of agencies who offer a complete travel package including local logistics & sightseeing could be doing better. The Matrimony sites too have exhibited a similar trend. Though the sector did manage to grow at a healthy rate of 36% YoY, it is not as significant as other areas. It could merely indicate that the new users of the internet have also given these sites a try. The Job-Hunt has gone social : The data about resumes uploaded indicate a similar trend. As compared to last year (1.65 Million), only 1.74 Million resumes were uploaded. This shift could suggest the increasing confidence in Social Media sites to hunt for jobs. Besides, employers too are increasingly turning towards these portals to seek the right candidate. Additionally, we have time & again seen how gaming could land you a job . These entire phenomenon, could have collectively affected the appeal of dedicated job portals. Now that the New Year has taken some interesting new turns, let’s see how well it progresses.
