The big blue social network just got even bigger. Facebook has reported that it has 1.1 billion monthly active users in Q1 of 2013. The largest social media company said that that its monthly user base grew 5 per cent to 1.11 billion accounts as of end of March, from 1.06 million at the end of December. This was a 23 per cent growth from a year earlier. According to the report, an expanding user base in India and Brazil had helped Facebook reach such a colossal number. Facebook said that in India the monthly active users (MAU) reached 78 million users at the end of the quarter as compared to 71 million in December 2012. In Brazil, the company grew monthly active users by 62% year on year to 73 million users. The numbers were release as part of Facebook’s  earnings report for the first quarter. Facebook posted revenue of $1.46 billion for its first quarter. Facebook further revealed that its daily active users (DAUs) were 665 million on average for March 2013, an increase of 26% year-over-year.  The company continued to see a steady increase in mobile usage , reporting 751 million mobile monthly active users, up from 488 million in the same quarter a year ago, and 680 million in the fourth quarter of 2012. About 189 million mobile MAUs accessed Facebook solely through mobile apps or the mobile website during the month ended March 31, 2013, a jump of 20% from 157 million during the month ended December 31, 2012. The social networking giant recently revamped its news feed and launched the much awaited Facebook Home . It also gave its Timeline a major and much needed overhaul followed by bringing its Open Graph to mobile. Furthermore, it is said that Facebook may launch a video advertising product soon. Facebook has always seen India as a potential market and hence bought Facebook Gifts to India and joined hands with Indian telcos  to expand its user base. Factors like rise in mobile phone usage , low end smartphones, high end feature phones and affordable data plans in the country will further help Facebook to manifold its user base.
