Facebook Rolls Out Verified Pages And Profiles

Taking a page out of  Twitter’s book , Facebook has launched  verified pages and profiles. Verified pages and profiles will be shown with a little blue checkmark, indicating that Facebook has investigated and determined that the account is genuine, not a parody, and legitimately created by the person or brand it claims to represent. The move will “help people find the authentic accounts of celebrities and other high-profile people and businesses on Facebook, ” the company said in a statement. Currently these badges are been given to prominent public figures, including celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and businesses with large audiences are subject to verification. However, the big blue social network explained that while pages and profiles are verified to ensure the account is authentic, you cannot request to have your own account verified. You can, however, report a fake account if you think you are being impersonated. Facebook has followed other social networks like Google+ and Pinterest who also have verified accounts.  In April, the social network had  started charging its UK users money in order for them to be able to message celebrities who have an account on the social network. Twitter had these verified badges from a long time now. The move by Facebook to copy one of Twitter’s prime feature is creating a buzz that will the social network  now adopt the famous hashtags? Meanwhile, I believe that although late, it is a good move by Facebook. Verified pages and profiles only help fans to trust all the posts from their favorite celebrities.
