Telecom Sector Gets Marginal Growth Spurt In March

The Indian Telecom companies have managed to add just a few subscribers in the month of March. The growth of 0.67% was recorded when the subscriber count went from 89.20 Crores to 89.80 Crores, according to data released by Telecom regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In its latest monthly report, TRAI has confirmed, “ The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 898.02 million at the end of March, 2013 from 892.02 million at the end of February 2013, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.67 percent ,” Reliance Communications was apparently the highest grosser, adding more than 30 Lakh users. Its tally sits at 12.29 Crores. As we had discussed a little while earlier , Vodafone & Idea have been quite active in the customer acquisition phase & both have added 24.66 Lakh & 23.17 Lakh Customers respectively. Bharti Airtel too, managed to add about 15.73 Lakh Customers. So far, the Mittal owned company is still the highest in gross number of subscribers. It currently has 18.81 Crores customers as against Vodafone’s 15.23 Crores & Idea’s 12.16 Crores. It is important to note that these three players collectively own more than 2/3 rd of the Cellular Market in India. Indian telecom players had been on an attrition dive for quite some time. Despite some positive movement , overall, thanks to the multiple hurdles pertaining to 2G Scam, 3G underperformance & few companies closing down operations, the subscriber count has been declining alarmingly. These additions are certainly a welcome change of scenario. With majority of the auctions culminating, telecom companies can now concentrate on their present & potential customers instead of trying to safeguard their businesses & interests. However, what will surely pinch the mobile service companies is the active usage of Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Almost 9 Crore people have utilized this essential tool. Will the companies take note & improve their services now? Image Courtesy |   myamcat Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
