With an aim to help people find their missing friends and loved ones in the Uttarkhand floods, Google has launched Person Finder. The web app is a tool which enables users to post and search for the status of relatives or friends affected by a disaster. Available in Hindi and English, the Google Person Finder is very simple to use. There are two buttons on the web app- ‘ I am looking for someone ‘ and ‘ I have information about someone ‘. The first button asks for the name of the person you are trying to locate and provides you with the information, in case, the name matches with its records. In case you have any information about a missing person, the  the second button asks you to add details like name, address, description ,photograph and physical characteristics. It also has an option of leaving message. At the time of writing this article Google said, that it is tracking more than 1,500 records. All data entered into Google Person Finder is available to everyone and is accessible by anyone. The program also lets the press, NGOs and others contribute to the database and receive updates by using the Person Finder API. “We hope Person Finder helps people get the latest information about their near and dear ones in these flood affected areas ,” states the Google India blog.   This is the first time the app has been launched in India. It was first used in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti and most recently after the Boston Marathon Bombings. Last week Google announced  Project Loon to bring affordable Internet access to remote places by means of giant balloons. I believe that Google deserves a kudos for putting its best foot forward to help the Government during the natural calamity. Lets, hope that the app gives out best results and help people find their loved ones. Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
