JustDial Launches Online Food Ordering Service In16 Indian Cities

Just Dial has stealthily introduced a food ordering service. Users can now order food from the restaurants that the company has listed on the website. This puts it on a collision path with younger and newer startups like FoodPanda, TastyKhana, Just Eat etc. Justdial has a strategic advantage here due to its existing user base and infrastructure. Justdial is expected to get 5% of the individual transactions that happen through their services, according to an earlier report from Techcircle. The restaurants can list themselves for free though. The service is operational in 16 cities namely, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Howrah, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Noida, Pune and Thane. Once you go to the website, you can select a restaurant available from the list and select the items you want to order by checking them off on the list. After you place the order, you get a confirmation SMS. The restaurant in question gets your order and processes it and you get food delivered to your place. The delivery is free for the customer since the customer only has to pay for they ordered. We don’t yet know if Justdial provides the logistics for this operation or whether the restaurants are tasked to fulfill the order themselves. Justdial has announced that although 24/7 ordering and delivery is limited to only those restaurants that are open round the clock. There is a minimum order condition but this varies from restaurant to restaurant. JustDial went public recently after years of planning for it. It currently claims to have around 9.5 million listings. It is easily India’s best hyperlocal search engine due to the amount of data that they have currently after more than 18 years in operation. The company announced a 69% increase net profit for the quarter which ended on June 30th of this year. Food ordering capability must be one of the many strategies that the company has at the moment when it comes to creating revenue funnels for the business. Have you tried the service yet?
