Twitter Acquires Social Media Analytics Company Trendrr

In a bid to boost real time coverage of TV trends, Twitter has acquired  social-TV startup Trendrr for an undisclosed sum. Trendrr analyzes data from social media sites such as Twitter to help businesses grow their brands. The company’s products help networks, television studios, brands and media agencies use the insights it gathers to grow. Some of the company’s clients include ABC, MTV, Telemundo and Univision. Trendrr’s products — Curatorr and Trendrr.TV — help companies use social networks like Facebook and Twitter to create and measure the value of real-time conversation. The Twitter team confirmed the news with a tweet . On the other hand, Trendrr confirmed the acquisition via blog post  and announced that it will shut the service in coming months and several members of the team will now join Twitter’s revenue engineering department. The acquisition will allow Twitter to offer additional services to networks, publishers and other organizations, the spokesperson says There has been plenty of buzz around Twitter’s potential for demonstrating the value behind TV programming. Twitter has made few acquisition in the social TV space. Earlier in February this year, it grabbed social TV analytics firm Bluefin Labs  to produce innovative new ad products and consumer experiences. In June Twitter acquired social discovery app Spindle and opened its analytic platform for everyone. The micro blogging platform nailed its biggest ad deal with Starcom MediaVest Group in April and suggested its inclination towards TV by reported talks with Viacom and NBC Universal.
