Android mobile app revenue is projected to nearly double to $6.8 billion this year as the number of Android smartphones soars globally, according to a new ABI Research forecast.  “ Apple’s iOS still leads all the other mobile operating systems’ revenues by a significant margin; however, the greater number of Android smartphones in use is clawing back Apple’s lead in this market. This year, Android smartphones will ship by a factor of more than three-to-one to iPhones “, says senior analyst Josh Flood in a statement. However, Apple’s iOS still rules in the mobile app revenue. ABI says Android’s total is only about 60% of what iOS generates. The research firm projects Android handset shipments will outstrip those of iPhones by three-to-one. According to IDC, Android have nearly 80% share of smartphone shipments worldwide in the second quarter. But the operating system is still dogged by malware attacks. A recent report from Public Intelligence found 79% of all mobile threats last year targeted Android. As per the report effective app advertising is one of the key contributors to Android’s app revenues. Android’s digital advertising, which is primarily based on Google’s powerful analytics search engine and vast experience, gives the company a big edge over Apple. According to eMarketer , Google captured 52 % of global mobile ad revenue in 2012. The analyst firm predicted that over the next year, Android app revenues on smartphones will increase anywhere from 59.1% to 65.9% over iPhone app revenues. Another factor which helped in boosting Android app revenues is the platform’s ability to charge app payments to carrier bills was mentioned as a factor to watch, especially in emerging markets where credit card payments are not as prevalent. Android owns a whopping 67% of the tablet market and 70% of the smartphone market globally. In July Google announced that more than 1.5 million Android devices are being activated each day, up from 1.3 million last September.   Image Courtesy |   technograte   Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
