Opera Debuts iPad Only Web Browser Coast

Opera Software has unleashed Coast, a iPad only web browser in order to tap the hot tablet market. The Coast app which runs only on Apple’s iPad is being described by Opera as “ the browser that should have come with the iPad “. “Websites and apps today invite you to interact in new ways, but browser design for tablets has not pushed to liberate itself from the influence it has experienced from its computer and mobile phone cousins, ” said Huib Kleinhout, Head of the Coast project at Opera Software in an official release. Check out the video below: Available on AppStore for download, the Coast is primarily gesture-based user interface with minimal application chrome. It turns your web browser into an internet home screen and your favorite websites into individual apps. Icons are arranged in columns and rows across multiple pages that you can navigate through swipes. The home page of the app has a search bar and site-specific tiles that remember where you were browsing. This means Opera has chucked the Speed Dial feature on its other web browsers. And like iOS at large, browsing on Coast is a single-pane experience too. One website takes up the entire screen, and you either have to go back to the home screen or navigate to a discrete page switcher in order to jump around to another site. Additionally, the browser also has a built-in search bar (powered by Google) and Opera has also programmed Coast to automatically suggest three results as you type. There’s also built-in security, including a warning that pops up when you visit a site Coast thinks could be dangerous. The Norwegian company already offers Opera Mini on Android and iOS and the heavier-weight Opera Mobile on Android. It did not gave any details about whether the Coast will be available for iPhone or other platforms after some time.
