Indian Government To Allow Complete Passport Application Process Via A Simple Mobile App

Indian Citizens are about to experience a whole new level of convenience when the complete Passport Application Process is allowed to be executed via a simple Mobile App. Indian Ministry of External Affairs ( MEA ) has been infusing the multiple processes mandatory while completing Passport Application formalities. Incidentally , there is already an app in existence on the Android and soon on iOS Platform. mPassport Seva allows users to find general information pertaining to the Passport, locate nearest Passport Center and Police Station, calculate fees and even track the status of applications. However, these are just informative services . The most primary step is to apply for a passport and it involves seeking an appointment with the regional passport office. However, along with the application, applicant also needs to pay a one-time processing fee which varies as per applicant’s requirements and time frame (Tatkal Services i.e. requisition of passport on Urgent Basis costs extra). Hence the app needs incorporation of features like Filing an Application and Executing Payment Procedure which will really add purpose to the mPassport Seva App. How will the app assist in filing an application? Applicants will be able to log in, file the application and track its status once the application is formally accepted. However, this happens only when the applicant successfully submits hard-copies of the documents at the Passport Office or as it is formally referred to as Passport Seva Kendra. Hence the app will be handy to pay for the registration process and seek an appointment to submit those documents. Once the documents are submitted, the office will generate an ARN (Application Registration Number). Thereafter the application will be useful to keep a track of the progress of the Application. Digitization of processes or allowing citizens to execute Government related functions online is surely a great way to usher in the age of e-Governance. Hopefully, the app, developed by Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS ) isn’t rejected citing security issues.   Image Credits: Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
