Indian Companies Turning Favorable Towards The BYOD And Mobility Phenomenon

Indian Enterprises, who were once wary of their employees using personal devices for office work, are now apparently turning supportive towards the trend. According to a recent study conducted by research firm Forrester Research , for technology conglomerate IBM , a high majority of Indian companies and more importantly their Chief Information Officers (CIO) now have a dramatically changed outlook regarding the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) phenomenon. The report indicated more than half (57%) of Indian Companies are now eagerly planning to invest in BYOD and mobility technologies, while more than 2/3 rd (67.4%) want to own the technology at their professional premises. Additionally, almost 50% of the respondents have become firm believers of investment in IT and are planning to put money in big data, analytics and cloud based infrastructure. Forrester surveyed CIOs (chief information officers), CMOs (chief marketing officers), CTOs (chief technical officers) and other decision-makers across various verticals before coming to this conclusion. Apparently, these high powered individuals have realized the need to provide mobile and portable computing capability of any kind, in a secure and easy way. This can be done by putting all infrastructures in one place which eventually reduces costs and increases efficiency for the enterprises and their employees, indicated the study. Why such a changed outlook? It wasn’t long back when companies perceived BYOD with utter disdain and doubt. According to the companies , data was highly vulnerable to theft or compromise since such devices couldn’t be completely secured and newer variants made the task near impossible. But there is now a fundamental shift in the attitude and perception of technology, indicated Avinash Joshi, VP sales & business development for IBM India/South Asia, “ There has been a paradigm shift in the way businesses in India demand new solutions that are made in India and for India. They are also showing massive interest in having a bipolar engagement with the consumers, streamline their operations and capitalize on new sources of revenue and most importantly, deliver exceptional services to their clients ” The research indicated that 51% CIOs absolutely believe in perfection, and hence want their team to be collaborative and go for a detailed orientation. Such an intention can only be possible if employees are intimately familiar with the devices being used and hence the BYOD Trend is here to stay. Fortunately for these CIOs, CTOs and others, multiple service providers have now focused their resources in developing tools and ecosystems that can be readily deployed on the employees’ devices and allow them to use the same securely without risking data safety. Does this mean companies will not frown when employees bring their own devices to sensitive office proceedings?
