Vodafone Launches Music Streaming Service, Trying To Jack-Up Data Consumption?

Vodafone India has come up with a new music streaming service called ‘ Vodafone Music Shop ’. What does Vodafone Music offer? Essentially a mobile internet based music streaming service; Vodafone Music is powered by Hungama’s platform. In other words, Hungama , the multi-content aggregator, has tied-up with Vodafone to offer its content via this specially created platform. Available via a web-address as well as a dedicated Android App , the service has music and video that is available free to stream. Besides Streaming, users can download content too, at Rs. 3 for a single song, Rs. 10 for 5 songs, and as a pack. Unlimited download packs are available at Rs.99 per month, Rs 29 per week & even Rs. 5 per day! Why is Vodafone getting into music streaming? Agreed, the platform allows users access to their favorite songs, possibility of adding widgets, managing their account and many more user friendly options. Additionally, the upcoming advanced version of the service will also include features like cloud sync, radio, playlist sharing, predictive search. However, Vodafone is essentially a telecom company & should focus on augmenting its services associated with telecommunications. Instead, the company appears to be inclined at offering more avenues to its customers to consume data. The company should realize that there are enough avenues to consume data already. In fact, numerous independent studies have indicated the overwhelming trend of consuming multimedia content via mobile internet. Vodafone’s attempt is clearly to entice customers to burn their data because this music streaming service doesn’t work on WiFi, neither does it work over other networks! The page works only on a Vodafone data connection, so the company makes money when users stream the service. Value added services are surely a reliable way to jack up revenue, but there are a lot of other players in this exact field. Music streaming is a pretty explored domain & companies like Hungama , Gaana , Dhingana & others offer not just similar, but rather more lucrative consumption options & tariffs. In such competitive times, do you think Vodafone Subscribers will adopt this service?   Image Source | Vodafone Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
