We Take A Look At WishPicker, A New Indian Online Gifting Startup

As more people go online in the country to buy products, an important section of the market is now getting highlighted. This has to do with Gifting, something that is inherent in modern life, but there are very few services available to make the process easier. Clearly, e-commerce has something to offer when it comes to the process of gifting. There are Indian start-ups which are trying to build offerings in the space such as gift recommendation engine Giveter , Giftology and Badhai.in. We recently also got in touch with a new entrant in the field, WishPicker. WishPicker is the service being built by Apurv Bansal and Prateek Rathore, who decided to start up when they perceived a gap in the Indian online business offerings when it came to gifting. Wishpicker curates products from leading Indian ecommerce stores and sorts them out with parameters such as gender, interests, scenarios, price and age among others. The start-up says that they handpick their gift items from websites such as Happily Unmarried, Flipkart, FernsnPetals, HealthKart, BabyOye, Carat Lane and others. The service also offers a Facebook integration so that it can intelligently come up with potential gifts based on your Facebook friends’ likes and interests. Wishpicker currently has tie-ups with 20 Indian ecommerce websites and they plan to add more online merchants to the list soon. When I tried the service, I found that it did indeed have good input parameters to find out new and interesting gift items for your friends and family. This allowed for some good discovery and personalization based on tastes. The company has plans to expand to international arenas because it feels that the core problem of gifting that they are trying to solve is global in nature, and as the Wishpicker service is a layer on top of existing e-commerce offerings, expansion would not be very capital intensive. Their goal now is to attract maximum users this holiday season. Give Wishpicker a try and tell us what you think.
