Online Communities On Google+ Is The New Way To Connect. But Will It Help Them Increase Their Fan Base?

by Paul Joseph November 21, 2011 Featured

Google+ who is trying to increase it user base , seems to be closely following Facebook albeit in a slightly unique way. Building up on the booming Social Platform , Google+ has introduced or rather attempted to bring forward a pre-existing feature. “ Communities ” through its Blog. Launched just two weeks ago on 7 Nov, the Google+ “ Pages ” project has already seen some great communities forming.  Google+ Pages provides a great way for businesses and organizations to connect with their followers & audiences. Much like Facebook Pages, people can choose to follow a Google+ Page to receive updates (even LinkedIn copied it!) from that organization and connect through conversations with that organization. Unlike a Facebook Page, on a Google+ Page you can host a public hangout to video chat with your community of followers. The Pages project seems to be a neat integration & next iteration of the “ Circles ” project, which Katango helped bolster . However, the circles project apparently rivals Facebook’s Smart Lists. A business-oriented  feature for sure, over 60% of top 100 brands have already launched their “ Communities ” on Google+. However, Tech People too have many communities like Lifehacker , The Verge etc. The ability to hold video chats, has opened a whole new world of virtual classrooms & hold PTA meetings & has certainly set the Google+ Pages or Communities project apart. And currently is slightly better than what FaceBook is currently offering. Now we can safely assume that Social networking is not that bad after-all!
