Facebook Launches Site To Connect With The Advertising Industry

by Paul Joseph April 20, 2011 Featured

Facebook has inaugurated Facebook Studio. It is a new website, built particularly for the advertising community. According to some, Facebook didn’t offer enough room to mainstream idea dependent advertisement to grow within itself. Facebook acknowledged this on this new site, and wrote, “We’ve heard from agencies, brands and the marketing community that you want examples, ideas and thought-starters for creativity and innovation on Facebook”. But according to Facebook, the new site will provide the advertising community with what they have longed for. The welcome page on the site reads, “We built this site to celebrate innovation, creativity and effectiveness on Facebook. It’s a community for you to share your work, get recognized by your peers and get rewarded for building campaigns that are social by design”.  Now word has it that creativity is next to nothing if it’s not properly manoeuvred. The site has few sections — Gallery , Spotlight and Agency Directory — which will streamline whatever the clients will come up with. Works will be submitted in the Gallery. If those works can gather enough number of ‘Likes’ then it will be placed in the Spotlight section, where the work will be stored permanently. The best work will also get awarded at Facebook Awards . Agency Directory is a very important sections as it contains the names of the advertising agencies who are partners of Facebook. There are hundreds of such companies in the directory. There are two other categories, first is Learning Lab , it will give visitors insight about marketing with Facebook and different marketing tools like Sponsored Stories, Check-in-Deals etc. And second is, What’s New , which informs you about the latest developments by the social network. Recently Facebook launched the Journalists on Facebook page and a few days back we reported of them hiring Mashable’s community manager Vadim Luvrusik to maintain the page and build relationship with journalists and news organisations. Using the platform the social network wanted to to build a decent relationship with the media community across the globe. The community has responded positively and Facebook’s initiative has been successful till now. Facebook may have a user base of nearly 600 million , but they are mostly random users and don’t belong to any set or subset. But with these recent moves, it seems Facebook is up for building better relationship with different sects. Earlier it was journalists and now it’s the advertising industry. Undoubtedly, this community will appreciate the initiative as well. The social network has also setup a Page for Facebook Studio . The success of the initiative can already be deduced from the popularity of the page, which got over 7,000 likes in a span of 12 hours. Small Investment In Facebook Gives Interpublic Huge Returns

by Paul Joseph April 5, 2011 Featured

In business, there’s basically no sure shot way to strike gold, some strategies click, while others don’t. Interpublic, an advertising group held one that falls on the first kind. Back in 2006 when nobody knew who Mark Zuckerberg was, Interpublic made an investment of less than $5 million into Facebook. And just look at the result of that investment, they now have a stake in Facebook, which is between $200 and $300 million. Financial Times reports that though the exact value of the Interpublics’ stakes in the social network isn’t yet disclosed, the insiders briefed that Interpublic Group clasps a bit less than 0.5 percent of Facebook’s stocks. Investment research firms may not admire Michael Roth, CEO of Interpublic Group as the investment guru, but it turns out that he has some foresight. The company wrote in their annual report, “From time to time, we make investments in privately held companies that we believe may be of interest to the advertising and marketing sectors.” Did they ever think one of their investments would fetch them such a money-spinning return? Perhaps not, but they acknowledge that investment by saying, “Certain of these investments, the most significant of which is Facebook, have significantly appreciated compared to their cost.” From a strictly monetary standpoint, this mammoth investment return doesn’t stand against the company’s net revenue ($6.50 billion approx). But still it created a buzz as very few companies end up garnering such an enormous return from a low amount investment. A year after Interpublic’s investment into Facebook, Microsoft made a $240 million investment into  then startup Facebook, which valued the social network at $15 billion, way more than Interpublic’s valuation, which was between $1 and $2 billion. So Interpublic’s lucky streak began right after the investment. Amazing! It’s a bit rare that an advertising company is investing into a social network. But the investment benefited Facebook highly as Interpublic promised Facebook that $10 million will be spent by them for their clients on Facebook. Supporting advertisers is one of Facebook’s agendas. Interpublic will leverage them on this. We had also reported that analysts expect Facebook’s valuation to reach $200 billion in 2015 or even in 2013 . Going by the growth & their predictions, it is not too late to invest in Facebook. Although Facebook’s valuation currently stands at nearly $85 billion in the second market, investing in the social network might give much higher returns in the near future. When Do you think Facebook will reach a valuation past $200 billion, in 2013 or 2015? Showcase Your Digital Work Here! Win An Award! BillMail ID Set To Become ‘World’s Bill Manager’

by Paul Joseph December 14, 2010 Featured

It proves to be quite a good week for the Mangalore-based web application firm – BillMail ID, with the announcement of a revolutionary web service on Sunday the 12th of December followed by its online launch on the very next day (i.e. yesterday). The official name of the firm is BillMail ID (India) Pvt Ltd. and its primary product is named BillMail ID. There are two major purposes that this latest novelty solution serves – (i) payment of any kind of bill and (ii) storing these bills in the cloud computing system . In the announcement on Sunday it was told that the web application would be able to create, receive, send, manage, print, store, search and pay bills in one platform. Mr. P.C. Hashir, Chairman of BillMail ID (India) Pvt Ltd terming it as the ‘commercial networking’ site for e-commerce personifies the fact that this online web service is not similar to other existing online payment services like paypal , eWay , etc; in fact it goes several steps further in not just helping people make bill payments online but also offers several other services. Let’s take a quick glance at each of them – • As mentioned above, BillMail ID enables easy storage of zillions of billing documents. • A search option enables a quick scan through of require bills and also facilitates the management of these bills. • BillMail ID can also be linked to other accounting software thereby linking banks and thus have its presence at bank counters, ATMs, kiosks at strategic locations and third party franchises. • Payment of bills can be made from the user’s computer system via debit cards, credit cards, and net banking. To make it simpler and easier for BillMail ID users to remember their user Ids, they can use the reverse of their mobile phone numbers. However, if that does not bode well with them, then they can request for the old-fashioned computer generated BillMail ID. Bill Mail ID is not just useful for the general public; it also makes the lives of the accounting department of huge corporations simpler too. Traders can link this service to their accounting software and generate bills and they can do so offline as well by downloading a free version of the billing software. They can send these bills to their clients who in turn can access the same portal to make payments for the bills raised. This unique web service has already been awarded an Indian patent and the Mangalore-team is awaiting the grant of a US patent, post which they can enjoy ubiquitous existence with minimum restrictions. Yesterday’s launch marks the release of the beta version of the product and since it is being endorsed as the first ‘commercial networking’ site, it sure seems like a revelation in the field of internet commerce. India : The Most Cyber Secure Nation in the World?

by Paul Joseph July 9, 2010 Featured

Atlanta-based security vendor SecureWorks recently unveiled the results of a study on cyber securities of nations. In what is dubbed as the ‘World Cup’ of cyber security , they compiled a list of countries that are most vulnerable to online attacks. India tops the list as the most cyber secure nation with an attacks-per-PC ratio of 0.05 while USA is the most targeted country with the rate of 1.6 incidents per PC. SecureWorks collected data on cyber attacks attempted against its customers from January 2010 to July 2010. It then broke down the numbers by IP address origin and factored in the estimated number of PCs for each country to reveal some interesting results. The study only took the top 16 countries, by number of PCs into consideration. For example, U.S. has an estimated number of 265,700,000 PCs and accounts for a whooping 441,003,516 attempted cyber attacks during the same period. That means 1660 for every 1000 computers, or over 1.6 for every PC. South Korea, came next with a ratio of almost 0.8, which is only half of United States. The country with the best score was India, with only one attempted cyber attack for every 20 PCs in the country – a heartening 0.05 ratio. China, is only in the seventh place, despite having the biggest number of PCs after the United States. This is somewhat surprising because people constantly point their fingers at China for hosting a large number of vulnerable PCs that are controlled to attack others. Jon Ramsey, CTO for SecureWorks commented “The reasons for the difference in number of attempted attacks per country could comprise many things – this ranges from the overall Internet speeds in a country and how proactive the ISPs are in protecting their clients to general user education on security. The ratio of Windows, Mac and Linux users in a country will also make a big difference. Overall, the study shows that not only are organisations and individuals putting themselves at risk by not securing them, but they are actually providing cyber criminals with a platform to compromise other computers.” So, while the real World Cup joy continues to elude us as a nation, we might find this as a reason to cheer !
