Facebook To Buy Snaptu For 70 Million $

by Paul Joseph March 21, 2011 Featured

Just recently we had blogged about how Linkedin partnered with Snaptu to bring linkedin features onto the application. Now it seems folks at snaptu have got lucky as they have confirmed an acquisition of their company by none other than facebook. Facebook is buying the mobile app that allows logging and updating various social networks for 70 million dollars. This acquisition clearly indicates that facebook is keen to dominate the social graph of the mobile web and that too not just via facebook but via other social media sites too. Snaptu is an app which is pretty popular in India too as late last year they had claimed over 2 million Indian users and also announced a partnership with Mid-day. The interesting part now will be what route will Snaptu take now? Will twitter stop supporting snaptu now that facebook owns it? How will linkedin react. Has facebook acquired snaptu for its users or its mobile engineering capability? As the acquisition gets complete many of these answers would get answered. For now this seems the second big social media acquisition by facebook after friendfeed . Hope snaptu doesn’t end up like friendfeed through. Showcase Your Digital Work Here! Win An Award!
