Mobile phones have come a long way when Martin Cooper from Motorola demoed his breakthrough and clunky prototype in the 1973. From then on, we have experienced rapid advancements in Mobile technology through 3 generations. The second generation brought us encrypted digital voice calling and rudimentary data exchange using SMS, e-mail and WAP browsing. Third generation phones are the phones we own today which have faster speed and a better Internet browsing experience via Apps, email and sync features. Mobile operating systems have distinguished themselves and now we have multiple operating systems vying with each other with iOS and Android leading the race. Long Term Evolution or LTE represents an advanced third generation wireless technology which is much superior to our current third generation phones. LTE also has an upcoming successor called LTE Advanced which is slowly becoming the number one choice in developed countries. LTE is built upon existing third generation wireless technology but allows more rapid transmition of data via a method called ‘ Multiplexing ’. All new phones that have just been launched such as the iPhone 4S and the Galaxy Nexus are LTE enabled. Some call it 4G erroneously but in truth this technology is somewhere between 3G and the predicted 4G.The problem with a developing country like India is the slow growth in the telecommunication infrastructure. We have only just got 3G and it is still not being adopted all over India very quickly. Now, the rolling out of LTE technology might also be delayed because of this. Phone manufacturers have not yet rolled a LTE enabled phone in the country. This where Nokia is bringing about a change. They have promised support for LTE whenever it comes to the country. “ Nokia is ready to provide handsets which would be LTE-enabled in the Indian market ,” Jasmeet Gandhi, head (services marketing) of Nokia India said in a statement. According to Nokia’s strategy, there will be no difference in the high-end smartphones and feature phones because they will be adding various features and applications on the handsets that will bring out. Frankly, Nokia isn’t doing too well. They are releasing way too many phones and have banked on the Windows Phone platform which itself has not found any solid standing anywhere in the world. Samsung overtook them recently in terms of sales. Regarding LTE compatibility I am sure Nokia will not be the only company to jump at the opportunity to support it. The differences between smartphones and feature phones are blurring on their own and Nokia has got nothing to do with it. With smartphones costing Rs.5-6k, there is really no need to buy a feature phone. I am saying this with the Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets. The number one question we have to ask is, ‘When will LTE be implemented?’ Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency Related Posts BSNL Brings Out New App Store, Late In Comparison To Other Private Telecom Operators Android Captures 40% Of US Smartphone Market Tata Sky Unveils Tata Sky Mobile Access Nokia To Give Symbian A Makeover, Support Older Devices Kotak’s Mobile Stock Trading Solution Coming To iOS And Android Devices
