So, this association will be actively participating in Automotive research in China and South Korea, according to the statement issued by the association they are also in talks Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. Currently some international brands are getting the benefits of ARAI because of their India collaborator like Suzuki because of Maruti India and more recently the Ssangyong because of Mahindra and Mahindra. Hyundai cars India is another auto giant that have benefitted from this association. ARAI was in news when it declared Chevrolet Beat Diesel as the most fuel efficient car. Initially this association has started with tie-ups with some automobile companies in these countries and local auto component manufacturers. The association helps them for homologation or giving official recognition to a prototype car or car component and thus allowing it to be used in a race or launched in a market. As per Shrikant Marathe, director, ARAI most of the Chinese and Korean auto companies are concerned about standards for their products and they have several queries regarding homologation, so their association is going to help these automobile manufactures as well as , provide them information in the areas like testing, services, certification and safety. In India this association is responsible for, research and development along with putting in place the safety standards and testing facilities in the automotive sector. It also provides technical expertise in R & D, testing, certification, homologation and framing of vehicle regulations. Yearly this association is investing Rs 22 crore every year for research and development. Marathe without revealing the names of the companies said that at ARAI, they harmonize Indian automotive standards to global standards. However, did not reveal the names of these companies. Though a team of ARAI has visited China and South Korea for the technical collaboration and educating their companies on safety, industrial homologation and testing but the entire process of shaping up collaborations with these countries will take another two years added Marathe.
