Nokia Enables Push Email Service On Low-End Phones

by Paul Joseph June 21, 2010 Featured

A couple of days back,  WATBlog discussed the stiff competition Nokia is facing in the smartphone segment and how it holds a very strong position in the low and mid levels of the mobile market segment. In a move to further strengthen its position in this space, Nokia has introduced the Push Mail service for low and mid level mobile phones. This service which has been available for smartphones since a long time has been extended to low end phones which currently consist of four S40 series phones, which are priced starting from Rs. 2700. By the end of the year it will be extended to a total of nine S40 series phones. The internet access required for this service will have to be acquired from the cell phone service provider. The basic features of this service are that personal emails can be accessed by the low end users from upto 10 email accounts of theirs which include Gmail, Yahoo and Rediff mail. It is capable of aggregating all emails of all the accounts of one user. One can also switch from one account to the other without closing the existing email account. This also means that the users will not need to login repeatedly to access their accounts from time to time. To activate the service on one’s Nokia phone the user has to visit the Nokia website , enter the mobile number and the details of the email account. This service is also has been available for some phones on its online store, OVI. The company says that the service available on OVI has 10 million subscribers with most of them from the developing countries. For this service Nokia has tied up with one lakh email providers globally. Mr Viral Oza, Head (Activation, Media and Online Sales and Marketing) of Nokia, said, ”The country has over 70 million mobiles phones that can access the Internet. But we have only 38 million PCs. According to estimates, there were 2.3 million people who accessed email on their phones. This could grow to 129 million by 2014. In fact, most people could start off email access on their phones.” This means that there is potentially a huge demand for this service. This service will definitely satisfy the hunger for email availability on mobile phones , especially in the low end segment. Let us know your opinion. Sony Releasing Playstation Phone-This Time for Real?

by Paul Joseph March 7, 2010 Featured

The release of the Sony Ericsson Playstation Phone or the PSP Phone has been one of the most rumoured news in the mobile world. The rumours have been circulating the net ever since Sony Ericsson gave the Walkman and Cyber-Shot branding to their phones. Some said that Sony lost sales of digicams and walkmans due to the phones branded with the Walkman and Cybershot and so they would release the Playstation phone independently ie it would be called the Sony PSP Phone and not the Sony Ericsson PSP phone. The rumours faded away with some resurfacing from time to time. But now engineers at Sony are developing a phone that will be able to download and run Playstation games. kind of like a mobile version of the PSP Go. Sony is also said to be working on an Apple iPad like device with gaming capabilities. This move might have been initiated due to the ever growing market for mobile phones particularly in the past year or two. Let’s wait and see if all this is true. via Mobile Tech Today Similar Posts: Sony Ericsson to set R&D unit for mobile phones in Chennai Sony Ericsson launches W700 and Z525 Sony Ericsson Kurara Live Pictures!
