The web has seen many marketing gimicks when it comes to web video. There have been fashion shows that have been stream live online and there have been movie premiere’s too. It seems that the trend is catching on atleast with TV shows. Star TV has known to do interesting stuff with web video as they own their own branded player called the Star Player . They have announced that they would be premiering the upcoming cooking reality show Master Chef on the web across several properties. The first look of its most ambitious show of the year begins on Oct 14th at 3 pm and will be on till October 16th 9 pm will reveal the first look of the season with Akshay Kumar as the host. This web premiere – first look of MasterChef India will be available on all Star properties i.e. www.startv.in (India’s premier catch up television service), www.indya.com (India’s premier television news aggregation site) & www.starplus.in (Star Plus’s official website). Star India has also partnered with one of India’s most popular website ie. www.rediff.com along with www.rajshri.com, www.facebook.com and a host of their current distribution partners who have embedded Star Player widgets. The videos shall also be available on www.masterchefindia.in, the official site for the show. This isn’t the first time that Star has gone ahead and done a web premiere there have been instances before as well . But this is the first time its happening simultaneous on several platforms that is owned by Star and those not owned by them as well. Web Premiere – An Opportunity? Web premiere seems to be a great opportunity for TV channels for creating a buzz in the social media space and kick off conversations around their new offering. Increasingly the web savvy audience seems to be the one that channels are looking to excite and spread the word via them.
