VoIP By Verizon Now Available In Asia Pacific. Commercial Hubs Can Cheer Up Now.

by Paul Joseph November 15, 2011 Featured

Soon large companies in India, Hong Kong & Singapore will be able to connect using, Verizon’s expansive global IP network. The VoIP network, unlike what BSNL is currently offering , is operated by Verizon Business & will enable commercial hubs of any multinational to have a unified communications network to improve efficiency & increase productivity , not to mention save a bundle on inter-hub calls! The Verizon VoIP portfolio seamlessly integrates network and Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) into a single platform, enabling businesses a simple, efficient way to transfer their voice and data services on to IP based technology at a speed they chose fit and irrespective of their current stage of IP roll-out. The ability to simply transition voice and data communications onto a converged IP platform is vital for organizations wanting to incorporate next-generation communications to meet their business objectives. Verizon has a much relied upon service called VIPER (VoIP IP Enterprise Routing), which is a cloud-based VoIP feature that eliminates domestic or international per minute calling charges for calls made between Verizon VoIP customers. Think of it as Skype-To-Skype Calls, but with much higher encryption & higher reliability focused solely for Enterprises and not available to general public . Previously, this was available only to the US & Europe, but now it is being made available (on pilot scale) for few chosen customers in this region. Another Verizon feature being introduced is Verizon’s proprietary Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (BEST) which shifts idle trunk capacity at one location to accommodate increased traffic requirements at another; a robust suite of business continuity services; centralized multisite, multi-country design architecture for additional network and cost efficiencies; T.38 faxing capabilities; and online self-service reporting capabilities. In other words, the system is smart enough to rapidly allocate idle bandwidth to maintain the high quality & reliability that Verizon is famous for. While Mobile companies like Airtel & Vodafone do have similar services , they are focusing on retaining customers ; Verizon Business has chosen a much less traded path of satisfying the large companies. BSNL Rolls Out Voice And Video Over Internet Protocol (VVoIP) Services In India

by Paul Joseph July 20, 2011 Featured

BSNL , in association with Sai Infosystem (SiS) has rolled out voice and video over Internet protocol (VVoIP) service in India in a bid to beat the stiff competition from various private players and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), reports CIOL . To get the basics right, VVoIP is a service that supports switching technology and allows for voice and video communication via the medium of internet. For a successful communication to take place, these voice and video are converted into data packets and transmitted to a particular destination. Upon reaching the same, they are again converted back to the same voice and video. Another report from IndianTelevision.com hints to the fact that with this new service, customers can now call any telephone, mobile or internet protocol (IP) phone anywhere around the world, except in India. But for that to happen there should be video phone equipments at both the end otherwise only the voice call is possible. As of now, customers in India can just go for IP to IP calling within BSNL network. Over and above that, the service is coupled with industry standard Class 5 features like Call Hold, Call Transfer, Do Not Disturb, Call Forward, Mute, Caller ID / Name Display or Block, Call Waiting, Call Waiting Caller ID, ring tones etc. The call tariff rates that BSNL is offering for the service look quite attractive. Within India, audio calls will cost 40 paise per minute while video calls will be charged at Rs.2 per minute. For those who make frequent ISD calls, this is a sinful treat. While Calls to US and China will cost Rs 1.20 per minute, the same will be charged for land line phones in UK as against mobile phones, which will cost Rs 7.20 per minute. The monthly charge for availing the service has been kept at a reasonable price tag of Rs 150. BSNL is of the opinion that the service will certainly cut down the expenses of customers who use conventional video conferencing services. The state- run company is also in talks with leading international players for a tie-up to ensure that its customers have the best service at an affordable price. As of now the services will start from Ahmedabad and will consequently move on to the rest of Gujarat and then Maharashtra and Chhatisgarh likewise, before it reaches the entire country. Earlier this year, we have reported of BSNL launching Fibre-To-The-Home (FTTH) technology for lightning speed internet access in India.   BSNL is also currently working together with Railtel and Power Grid to quickly connect all 250,000 village panchayats to optical fiber. Moreover, it is the first company in India to launch data plans for Apple’s iPad . And it has a mobile app store coming its way soon. It appears that the state-owned telecom company is today leaving no stone unturned to rule the telecom and allied space, which of late, seems to have been saturated with many a private players. Will BSNL be successful in its endeavor? What do you think?
