Nexus One vs iPhone 3GS 3D Performance Comparison

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The folks at a game development company Distinctive Developments have posted a cool video comparison of the Nexus One and iPhone 3GS.  In the video they compare the 3D performance (GPU -Graphics Processing Unit) of the two phones. They render the same game scenes on both the phones and test the frame rate and graphics. As you can see in the image below, the 3GS is doing 60 frames per second and the Nexus One is doing 31 frames per second. One of the main reasons for the lower frame rate on the nexus one might be the larger screen size. The GPU needs to fill 2.5 times as many pixels on the Nexus One than it does on the iPhone. In this test the 3D engine code running on both devices is the identical with one major exception – the Nexus isn’t using Neon floating-point optimization Even though the  iPhone 3GS packs only a 600Mhz CPU compared to the Nexus One which packs a 1 GHz CPU, the iPhone wins in the 3D arena. The Nexus One is powered by Android which is not yet fully optimized for gaming and 3D applications like the iPhone according to this test. Apple iPad first commercial makes debut at Oscars

Tags: , , , , , , , ,

Very few people in this world possess great marketing skills like Apple CEO Steve Jobs. After making an short appearance at the Grammy Awards last month, the Apple launched its first TV Commercial for the upcoming iPad during the Oscars today. What better audience do you need for what some people call as an oversized iPod touch ? Video after the break The 30 second promo quickly shows all the features of the iPad. We love the iPad’s screen but what’s  scary is the onscreen keyboard. The guy did not even type a word during this ad. Does  that mean Apple is not confident of the keyboard on the iPad ? We have always wondered how easy it is to type on the iPad considering its pretty big to grip and type at the same time Similar Posts: Apple iPad Official Video Promo Apple iPad UI on the iPhone and iTouch Apple iPad takes centerstage at Grammy Awards Ceremony Rumor : Apple iPad Videos Apple iPad launch date April 3 , Pre-orders from March 12 Share/Save

Google Nexus One Unboxing Pics

Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

The Google Nexus One just landed at FoneArena and here are some unboxing pics.  The phone comes in a really small package similar to the Google Ion . The phone is really attractive and incredibly thin. It’s currently one of few good looking Android handsets in the market in addition to the HTC Legend.  Full marks to HTC for the phone’s design. Its really feels nice to grip this handset and the AMOLED display with 800×480 resolution is cool. This handset rocks on Android 2.1 (Eclair ) and the animated wallpapers are impressive. The 1 GHz processor means that this handset is really fast and there is no noticeable lag during operation. And here is a video of the Nexus one powering up Stay tuned for more Nexus One coverage on FoneArena as we will be putting the phone through its paces ! Video: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to be released with Android 2.0 ?

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

Something very very interesting popped up in my News Reader today: René, from the highly recommended german Website mobiflip.de has attended the CeBIT recently and amongst some other latest Devices, such as the latest HTC Bangers Legend and Desire, he also had a play with the long-awaited Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. The interesting Part? Well, the Demo Girl confirmed to René that the X10 will indeed be released with Android 2.0 on it! The Demo Device had 1.6 on it and to be honest, I’m again not too impressed with what i was seeing. The Device was obviously still lagging and did not do the Overall Impressions any Favors. While i’m confident that Android 2.0 should give the X10 a big Boost (I’m having the leaked Eris ROM on my HTC Hero and it’s significantly snappier), i smell Bugs all over the Device. Back in November 2009, i was invited to a Sony Ericsson Press Demo, with the official Introduction of the X10 to Austria, and had my Hands on a Proto. The Handset was pretty nice in Terms of Hardware Quality, and also the UX Interface was great, but i had Hangups and Lags over and over again. At some Point, i even wondered where the Snapdragon Processor was hidden. Seeing Renés Video shows a slightly better Experience than I’ve had it, but still far away from the Performance you would expect. But, and here’s were the Doubts kick in, this is the first Time i heard that 2.0 will be running on the X10, and i doubt that SE has much Time to actually make UX ready for the new Version. The Problems i smell here, are Bugs and closed Apps all over. While I’m happy we will get Android 2.0, I hope SE sorts out their Software and really gives us a Device that impresses us big Time. I’m having high Hopes in the Xperia X10, so please, let this Experience something to drool about! video in german Similar Posts: Sony Ericsson Rachel Rumours! Nokia 5530 XpressMusic Photo Gallery

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic was the second touchscreen-only Symbian phone to come from Nokia. Building after the popular success of the 5800 XpressMusic, it brings a bit less features (no GPS, no 3G), making it smaller and more affordable than the 5800. For those of you who were scared by the chunkiness or lack of style in the 5800’s design, the 5530 XpressMusic is a great alternative to consider. The 5530 XpressMusic features a simple design, with plastic materials, and a nice metallic rim around the top edge of the touchscreen. Beneath it is a colored rim, here it’s in turquoise blue because our unit is the white one. The bottom of the phone houses the microUSB plug, 3.5mm headset plug, and charging pin. The right side of the phone has the volume keys, the keylock switch, and the camera shutter button, whereas the left side (not shown) has the microSDHC and SIM card door. The top of the phone only has the power button. The metallic rim is almost flush with the rest of the touchscreen, and the simple design is further accentuated by the use of touch keys for the Menu, Call and End Call keys. A stylus is included with the 5530 XpressMusic because it uses a resistive display which requires a push to work, and the stylus can be removed from the lower back left side. The back of the 5530 XpressMusic is made of a huge battery cover, in plastic, engraved with the Nokia logo, and a few dotted blue patterns to follow the color theme of the phone. It also house the 3.2MP camera, non Carl-Zeiss unfortunately, and with one Dual-LED. The 5530 XpressMusic’s homescreen shows a ton of information, starting by the date and time, operator, profile. It lets you set up to 20 favorite Contacts that you can scroll through, and 4 favorite Applications. There’s also options to show your Email, Calendar and To-Do notes, as well as current playing Music on it. If you click on a Contact, you’re presented with your latest communication with them. There’s a small video demonstration included on the 5530 XpressMusic, that you can play from the Gallery menu, and that explains a bit more the options included in the phone. Here are a few shots of it. Being a touchscreen XpressMusic phone, the 5530 also has the Multimedia menu touch key on the top right, just above the touchscreen. Tap it, and you have the options to quickly access the Music Player, Gallery, Share Online, Video Player, and Web Browser. The 5530 XpressMusic comes with the BL-4U battery, a 1200mAh battery, that can last through 1-2 days of average usage, with some Music playing, Wifi browsing, calls, messages and such. Nokia 5530 XpressMusic – Seeing in Double And just because one 5530 XpressMusic isn’t enough, here are a few shots of two 5530 XpressMusic devices side by side, only for the sake of bragging that we had two of them at the same time. Nokia 5530 XpressMusic And Accessories The 5530 XpressMusic comes bundled with a nice set of WH-205 in-ear headphones, that unfortunately don’t have music control buttons, but come with 3 different ear-size tips.
