Nokia has shown of a demo of a new piece of technology called Explore and Share which lets you transfer files wirelessly to your phone. This is some interesting work by folks in Nokia Research Center in Finland. The demo uses a specially modded Nokia N900 and transfers an entire music album in under 10 seconds ! Explore and Share is based on new radio technology. This demo unit sees you place your device on a ‘writer’ which is connected to a separate touchscreen monitor. This new radio tech forms a short-range connection between the writer and the device, and doesn’t use any other radio networks – the writer is immediately paired with and recognizes your handset, and instantly brings up relevant content that is available for it on the large touchscreen monitor. From here you simply tap to transfer the apps, music albums, games, apps, videos and other extras you fancy, direct to your phone in a flash. There is another video by Vaibhav from TheSymbianBlog Hope we see this in real devices atleast by 2012. San Francisco Bay has got an extended coverage of Mobile phones as the local commuter railway, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) starts to offer wireless access throughout the Transbay Tube. BART passengers now have a continuous wireless access from the West Oakland BART Station all the way to Balboa Park. BART which has been gradually expanding since 2004, was the first public transit agency in the nation to provide underground access to all wireless companies and their customers. This access provided mobile service in the downtown San Francisco stations and tunnels between Embarcadero and Civic Center. The very next year BART expanded the service area to 16th, 24th, Glen Park and Balboa Park Stations and then later to the tunnels that connect those stations. BART Board President James Fang said, “We are pleased to end 2009 by enhancing wireless amenities to our 160,900 customers who ride through the Transbay Tube each weekday”. He futher continued, “Underground wireless service has been expanded to the Transbay Tube thus providing seamless above and below ground mobile service for BART customers riding between Oakland and San Francisco. The best news is that the installation and operational costs are paid by the providers-not by BART.” AT&T, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Sprint/Nextel and Verizon are the cell phone companies which have just turned on their wireless networks in the Transbay Tube. There are many installation projects upcoming following this coverage extension. Similar Posts: None Found Share/Save
