Ads In Videos Gaining Rapid Popularity For Advertisers. Shifting Marketing Dynamics?

by Paul Joseph May 14, 2012 Featured

In the growing world of mobile internet & smartphones , videos are the evolving medium of entertainment. In synergy, advertisers are now poised to leverage this medium for pushing brand messages. Since India is now well on its way to faster internet, audiences access multimedia content via online videos. In fact, a recent survey from comScore revealed 7 out of 10 Indian Internet Users watched videos online. No wonder, we are now even ahead of USA  too. Why the urge to advertise through online video ? Just last year Internet companies made a huge chunk of money, around  US$ 428 billion,  from online advertising. A year ago it was US$ 220 Billion. A 100% Year-On-Year (YoY) growth, combined with ability to track performance , is enough to re-think advertising campaigns. Indian companies have now rapidly re-aligned their strategies & are readily considering online advertising as an effective means of getting one’s message across. India’s Internet community has & will show healthy growth  combined with relatively cheaper rates. Also not to forget, adverts that charge only if users interact with it ( Pay Per Click PPC) have become a preferred method even for SMEs. However, in case of video, the usual method of advertising is Pay Per Impression (PPM). Though, usually the rates per display are very low, given the viral nature of videos , this number can easily shoot up quickly. The fact that social media is spreading like wild-fire for all , only helps companies leverage more out each video posted online. We have covered several instances where companies have striven hard to first garner quality content & then commercially exploit it by introducing ads in them. A recent Morgan Stanley research suggest that 50% of mobile traffic will be video centric. If that turns to reality, video will be become a much sought after commodity for direct advertisements. Will users tolerate this? Share your opinions with us. Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency

Service To See Who Googled You: Personal Branding Or Heights Of Narcissism?

by Paul Joseph May 14, 2012 Featured

First we had Search Engine Optimization , a series of steps to be undertaken to ensure that your content is available on the holy grail that is the first page of a Google Search Result. Then we came across Online Reputation Management, a way for brands to monitor what is being said about them and to reach out to customers. Both are used by almost every enterprise who has an online division. Now, in a step further, it seems that people have begun treating themselves as brands, and curating their Online Persona. With the advent of Facebook and almost everyone being on it, people have begun to be more careful of what they say online. Nowadays, it is a known practise for employers to perform online searches of potential or current employees. These searches are very thorough and often can throw up unpleasant or forgettable instances in an employee’s life. According to a 2009 study , almost 70% of U.S. hiring managers said they had rejected a candidate based on what they found in his or her search results. To avoid such situations, https://brandyourself.com/  comes in. The service lets you manage what appears on the front page when someone Google’s your name. Further, it allows you to see if someone has searched your name, and goes to the extent of attempting to tell you who it was and from where they searched for you. The service differentiates itself by not using unscrupulous SEO methods like Black Hat, which may cause Google to ban you. Also, to make it available to the masses, they offer a Free Version with limited functionality, and a Premium Version at $10/month. While this seems like a good idea, we wonder if there could be a flip side to it. People already are in an everlasting race to get the most Likes, the most Followers. If you give them tools to manage their Online Reputation, this may just fuel their narcissism to greater levels. Will you give BrandYourself a try? Do let us know in the comments below. New Google+ App For iPhone Offers Renewed Hope For Google’s Social Network

by Paul Joseph May 14, 2012 Featured

Google+ , Google’s struggling social project  has got a new app for the iPhone ecosystem. The app has been completely designed in-house & contains features that seem conjured up only for the mobile platform. What’s new?  The earlier version was merely an app for the comparatively smaller screen. However, Google’s team has managed to “ re-imagine what the service should look like on a mobile device ”. In other words, the app is designed with a ‘ mobile first ’ perspective. With images & multimedia content given precedence, endless scrolling with data optimization to quickly put up whatever is in focus, highlights the efforts to re-design the experience. Both the companies i.e. Facebook as well as Google have their own versions for the mobile operating systems. However, Facebook’s app is doing better , Google+ app is still struggling to stand on its feet. Sure, Google would have us believe that their network is growing slowly but steadily , but recent statistics just prove the opposite to be true . In fact, even newer services have surpassed it ! The constant endeavor to garner user base from whichever platform possible will surely surprise many users constantly.  What additional features do you seek in Google+? Is Nuance Making Voice Typing A Real Alternative To The Keyboard?

by Paul Joseph May 14, 2012 Featured

With the widespread propagation of Personal Computers, it was found that not everyone is comfortable with typing all the time. This lead to the hunt for other ways to input text. The mouse was used to navigate around menus, and people even tried digital pens to input text. However, it was not as quick as needed to genuinely replace the keyboard. Then came ‘ Voice Recognition’ . At first it was incredibly limited and slow, but over time, as hardware and software improved, voice recognition has reached a stage where it can be used by the average consumer. Google is very bullish about Voice Inputs and has integrated it deeply on their Android Smartphones. Apple too set the bar in personal voice assistants with their Siri for the new  iPhone . This may surprise some, but voice input has made sizable advancements in the Indian Market too, largely due to  Nuance Communications. Through a software developed by them called Dragon NaturallySpeaking, voice recognition is being used in High Courts in places like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and the city of Mumbai. The software allows users to dictate documents, work on their email and give voice commands to the computer without having to input anything manually. It is supposed to be up to 3x faster than typing . Nuance also sees great potential for Dragon Medical , that is already being used in places like Apollo Hospital in Bangalore and SevenHills in Mumbai, in the Healthcare Sector. Traditionally, voice recognition software may have failed in India for several reasons. Firstly, they are prohibitively expensive. Secondly, they fail to recognize local Indian Languages. Thirdly, they fail to recognize the Indian Accent of speaking someone speaking English.  Dragon NaturallySpeaing supports 14 different Indian languages, like Indian English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bhojpuri and Urdu. While Dragon’s commercial software are my no means cheap (the Legal Version retails for $799 or Rs. 40,000), consumer  versions are available for around $99 (Rs. 5,000).  Interestingly, Nuance’s software also powers Siri for the iPhone and Swype, a popular keyboard on Android that also has voice commands. Can Voice Typing replace the traditional keyboard? Do let us know in the comments below. Looking For A Social Media Agency?? – Contact WATConsult – India’s Leading Social Media Agency
